Bee colonies on our company premises
The bee is the smallest domestic animal in the world – and yet it does an outstanding job! They ensure diversity in nature and on our plates, as they pollinate the vast majority of wild and cultivated plants, helping them to produce more fruit. With honey, beeswax and royal jelly, the bee also provides valuable natural substances.
Since April 2020, we have been the proud tenants of two bee colonies on our company premises. We work together with Heidelberg beekeeper Jörg Staffel from Südwest Mietbienen.
We provide the space and ensure that the colonies remain undisturbed. Our green strip is also planted with bee-friendly plants. Beekeeper Jörg Staffel takes care of the rest. Once a year, we receive our own honey.

The FELS bee year
- April, May, June: Weekly swarm checks
- Mid-May + beginning of July: Honey harvest and spinning
- June-December: Regular check for varroa mite infestation
- Mid-July: Varroa treatment part 1
- July-September: Feeding with sugar water
- September: Varroa treatment part 2
- December: Varroa treatment part 3
